The JKUAT Tech Expo is a student based technological and innovation platform that enables innovative students across the country to showcase their ideas as well as interested potential investors to actualize their ideas. The expo majors on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We were lucky to be part of this educative technological competition held on the 9th and the 10th of November.
Day’s activities
9th November
The day began with an opening assembly where Prof. Mary Abukutsa DVC, Research, Production and Extension Division (RPE) encouraged all innovators to keep up and ensure their products get to the market and changing ideas into businesses in order to change the world.She later invited Laureen Ngoya Matundu the events manager, Tech Expo and Calvin Kabati Chair Tech Expo who welcomed the guests and visitors.
The chief guest speaker was Olive Gachara, KCB Lions Den Investor who has accomplished more than most people willing their entire lives-and she’s not yet 30 years old.She has opened a modeling agency,earned a business degree,built her own consultancy,advised fashion publications and published a magazine. She encouraged people to live their lives in 3Ds,that is,Drive, Discipline and Determination. As an entrepreneur she advised people its important to learn marketing strategies.
Meanwhile as the opening assembly was ongoing,exhibitions were also ongoing at pavilion where different peoples made up of students and staff come around from one tent to another and we all explained our innovations to them.Groupsof different judges also came round checking on the best exhibitions on display.
10th November
The day began with a panel session that occurred concurrently with showcase of exhibitions at the pavilion. The exhibition took place until 2pm and people broke for lunch.Afterwards people assembled at the assembly hall for the awards ceremony.
The keynote speaker was Abel Masai,an award-winning mobile solutions expert with vast experience in the design,development,deployment and delivery of mobile products ranging from Mobile VAS to Mobile Commerce.Leading Kocela’s disruption of the mobile landscape in E.A.He emphasized on consistency and never giving up.
This was followed by the awards which included the junior awards,people’s choice awards and the winner’s awards,where we managed position 3 in the winner’s awards.
To conclude, we would like to thank the university management for their facilitation during the expo competition and the entire the university fraternity for their continued support and good wishes.Above all God almighty.
